Douglas R. Bierma, M.D.,F.A.A.P

Douglas Bierma M.D. was born and raised in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, in the Crestwood/Oak Forest area.

Dr. Bierma received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry with highest honors from Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois.

He then received his Doctor of Medicine from Loyola University’s School of Medicine. He did his pediatric specialty training at DeVos Children’s Hospital with Michigan State University.

After graduation he joined Dr. Thomas Moore’s practice in Shorewood where he has now worked for 10 years splitting his time between general pediatrics and developmental/behavioral medicine.  He has also enjoyed working with Easter Seals Joliet Region, serving on their Utilization and Review Board for almost 10 years; the Autism Diagnostics and Behavioral Health Clinic for 2 years; and most recently has been named their Medical Director.  He has served as Chairman of the Pediatrics Department at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center and also as Vice-Chairman of the Pediatrics Department at Silver Cross Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine.  He is an instructor on the faculty of Midwestern University College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics.

He has been interviewed by many magazines, newspapers and has appeared on internet television specials ranging in topics from developmental disabilities, children’s nutrition and obesity.  Doug and his wife Christine have been married for 15 years and have four children: Christian, Emily, Jed and Wesley.  He is an active member of New Life Christian Church where he enjoys acting and singing.
